Molecular Biology of Negative Strand RNA Viruses
The major objective of our research is to understand basic aspects of viral gene expression and virus membrane assembly of rhabdoviruses and paramyxoviruses.
A reverse genetics system developed in our lab allows to recover such "negative strand RNA viruses" from cDNA clones and to engineer mutations in their genomes. Mutant viruses are being designed to study the functions of virus proteins in virus gene expression as well as in host cell interplay. We are also using this system to generate biomedical tools based on these viruses, such as recombinant vaccines or vectors with redefined cell tropism for targeting of malignant cells.
